Bored of the perpetual mud and rain at Wacken, the gigantomania of the GrasPop Metalfest, or the confines of the artificial world of Hellfest? Then it's time to turn your attention to Slovenia, where the successor festival "Tolminator" is taking place at the site of the already legendary Metaldays. Tolminator means: 5,000 spectators, or 5,000 nerds, who will party, bang, and relax for four days, off the beaten festival path, in beautiful nature on the banks of the Soča River. Is that even possible? Apparently, the organizers have long since realised that heavy metal pilgrimages can also take place in beautiful places. The lineup is fantastic, featuring not only big names but also local bands or those from nearby countries, who get the opportunity to play in front of a larger and international audience through this festival. We at Heavystoned are heavy metal and nature lovers; see the Geotrips page on our website. And our two trips to Slovenia left a lasting impression on us, be it the numerous show caves or the gorges. But also the people, who take palpable pride in their country and their very own approach to culture, as the band Laibach has demonstrated since 1980. And where did Amebix perform outside the UK for the first time in 1986? That's right, in Slovenia.
