Some albums are not just music – they are a journey. Conifer Beard's Stranstviy Skaz (which means Tale of Wanderings) is exactly that. From deep forests and quiet rivers to heavy thoughts and
burning skies, this record takes you far away from the noise of modern life.
The opening track, "Beginning" (Зачин), sets the mood: slow, cold, and full of space. You don’t get catchy hooks – you get atmosphere. The band mixes slow doom riffs with Russian folk melodies,
and it works. It's dark, but also beautiful.
One of the highlights is "Bright Falcon" (Ясный сокол), where traditional sounds meet heavy guitars. It's like flying over ancient lands, with sorrow in the wind. Another strong track is "With
The Dawn" (С Зарей) – calm at first, then heavier, like the slow rise of a mountain.
"Spirit of Macabre" (Дух Макабра) brings more tension. It's heavier, darker, and shows the band's doom side. But then comes “Ash Became Fire” (Пепел стал огнем) – a turning point in the album.
The name says it all: it's about change, rising from something dead and becoming something strong again.
The last track, "Exodus" (Исход), closes the album with weight and reflection. It feels like the end of a long trip, with more questions than answers.
Even if you don't speak Russian, the emotions come through. The vocals are deep and serious. The production is clean but keeps a raw edge. This album doesn’t try to impress – it just tells its
story. All tracks were performed with a hardcore-like power, very edgy and very emotional.
Stranstviy Skaz is not easy listening. But if you take the time, you'll find a deep and honest record. For fans of doom, folk, and atmosphere – this is a cold wind you want to follow.
