Her Name Was Fire (POR) - Obsidian Light

After a 10-year hiatus, the Portuguese duo "Her Name Was Fire" has released an album that makes us forget the anemic releases of QOTSA. I’m not sure how the two guys intend to present their compositions—which are simultaneously complex and catchy—in a live setting. Well, the record is so good that the band will essentially be compelled to perform it live. I would have personally chosen the second track, "Facekicker," as the opener, as it is somewhat more straightforward—less unwieldy and complex—than the actual opener, "Electrify." "Head on the Wall" breathes the spirit of 90s alternative rock deep into its very core, refined with echoes of early QOTSA. "Better Days" sounds like the aftermath of a two-day peyote session in the desert—at once trippy and epic, with a subtle influence from Muse. "Steamed" brings the album to a close. As it unfolds, this track builds in power and features intricate vocal lines; it could quite easily have appeared on "Songs for the Deaf". A fantastic, fresh, and interesting album that leaves you craving more music of this caliber.

As the band told on their Instagram profil: No fillers, just killers! Yes!
